August Monthly Talk – TALL SHIP ALMA DOEPEL

MONTHLY TALKS – “TALL SHIP ALMA DOEPEL

Jasper Coghlan will talk about the history and restoration of the Tall Ship Alma Doepel.

The ship ran youth sail training programs in the 1990s when Jasper’s son gained life-long benefits from participating in a 9-day youth development voyage. There are now plans to resume these. The ship, based at Docklands, was built in New South Wales in 1903 and operated as a coastal trader and in other roles until abandoned.  In the 1980s the ship was fully restored but was retired in the late 1990s due to the deterioration of the hull. Jasper is a volunteer on the Fundraising Committee of Sail & Adventure Ltd, a Registered Charity that owns and operates the ship.

Jasper’s family has lived and holidayed in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale since the 1890s. He was Secretary of the Point Lonsdale Civil Association for several years to 2015.
