Monthly Talks – “FIJI shipwreck at moonlight head 1891″
Presenter: Author Alan McLean
If you like a good mystery, this talk is for you.
The grounding of the Fiji sailing ship near Moonlight Head (west of Princetown, Victoria) in 1891 was no regular shipping disaster. What followed had more remarkable components than most fictional shipwreck stories.
Author Alan McLean is our February guest speaker. Based in Melbourne, he was raised in regional Victoria and has a keen interest in history, especially local histories. Alan became fascinated with the story of the 1891 shipwreck, Fiji, after stumbling upon the monument for those who had lost their lives, including a hero from Geelong who died during the rescue.
The Fiji was built by the Harland and Wolff shipbuilding company based in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the same company that built the Titanic.
Please come along to hear Alan talk about the tragedy, bravery, and mystery of this shipwreck.
Please join us at the Point Lonsdale Hall for this interesting Museum Talk.
