Monthly Talks – Exploring William Buckley through the eye of the artist

David Beaumont will talk about his exploration of ‘wild white man’ William Buckley (1776-1856) through the artist’s eye. David is a renowned artist who lives locally and exhibits nationally.

Buckley was an English convict who escaped from the British settlement in Sorrento in the early 1800s and survived in the Australian wilderness. Buckley lived with the Wadawurrung Aboriginal people on the Bellarine Peninsula for more than 30 years before being discovered by European settlers in 1835. Note: The William Buckley series may contain references to images of First Nations people who are deceased.
